Presenting Author Guidelines

Instructions for Standard Oral Presentations

Each abstract accepted for a full oral presentation will be given a 20 minute slot. The presentations should not exceed 16 minutes, to allow for time for Q&A and for the announcement of each delegate prior to each presentation.

Please check the day, time and room for your presentation in the conference programme!!

Some additional information regarding presentations:

  • Delegates may not use their own computers. An Apple iMac (running PowerPoint) connected to a projector/screen will be present in each room for the presenter to use. PDFs or other browser-based presentations may also be used. Additional support available on request.

  • Authors should make their presence known to the session chair prior to the start of the session.

  • Every presentation should be uploaded to the conference computers, during the breaks prior to each session. Please make sure to check that your presentation is how you intend it to be.

  • You are welcome to use your own template for your presentation, as we will not be offering a specific conference one.

  • It is strongly advised that you also have a backup pdf copy of your presentation.

  • If you have been shortlisted for the IChemE Early Career Researcher Award, please make sure to attend the gala dinner, where the winner and runners-up will be announced!

Instructions for Researcher Showcase Presentations

The same guidelines that apply for Standard Oral Presentations apply for Researcher Showcase Presentations. However, the presentation should not exceed 4 minutes and is limited to a maximum of 5 slides. Questions will be deferred to the end of the session (time allowing).

In order to ensure that the session runs smoothly and without delay, we will be preloading all talks on conference computers - you will not be able to use your own device. We are therefore requesting that all authors upload their presentation beforehand (at least 24 hrs.) at the following portal:

Naming Convention

Please name all files as “research_showcase_xxx”, where xxx is your submission ID.

Research Showcase Upload

All Research Showcase presentations should be uploaded at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled time. Failure to do may result in the presentation being unavailable for display during the session.

Visual Abstract

For each Research Showcase presentation we will show a visual abstract on the conference screens on the day of the talk to promote your work. This is a single slide that may contain text, images and videos - we provide a template for you to follow below.

A visual abstract is a brief, visual summary of the key findings of an article.

Just like the abstract section of an article; it conveys the most essential points in a shorter format, but it does not replace reading the full article. Instead, it serves to generate interest in your research and, in this case, encourage people to visit your talk or speak to you directly.

Visual abstracts combine text, graphics, videos, and design components, such as illustrations, icons, and flow-chart graphics. Typically they rely more on imagery than text and are presented on a single slide.

Try to keep the content simple and present key points. Check the resolution and use large, easily readable fonts.
