Abstract Submission

Submission Types

Abstracts accepted for oral presentation at CHoPS can be one of a standard oral presentation slot, which is 20 minutes, or a research showcase which is a short (3 minute) presentation coupled with a digital showcase platform that allows researchers to deliver their work in an exciting and engaging manner.

Research Showcase

The Research Showcase is being used as a replacement for traditional posters which are sometimes considered to be a consolidation prize for not getting a presentation. Posters may have a significant printing cost and used only for one event, can be cumbersome to carry for delegates travelling and may only offer limited exposure for the participants due to placement in the schedule or venue.

Each author will have a maximum of 3 minutes and be limited to a maximum of 5 slides to introduce their research to the audience.

Authors who request one of these lightning talks will also have their Showcase available on the conference showcase gallery in pdf format as well as their Virtual Abstract being digitally displayed around the conference venue to provide maximum visibility and encourage engagement.

Details on the format of the Virtual Abstract will be provided closer to the conference.

IChemE Early Career Researcher of the Year Award

The IChemE Early Career Researcher of the Year Award celebrates excellence in communicating research outcomes in the field of Particle Technology. Awards will be presented for the best oral presentations, with the shortlisted delegates being informed by the 1st July, 2024 to ensure registration and attendance at the conference.

All shortlisted abstracts will be presented in one or two sessions and a judging panel will select three candidates who will receive awards. Early Career Researcher Award prizes of £500/£250/£100 will be awarded respectively to the first, second and third place.

The judging criteria will be:

  • quality of the work
  • clarity of the presentation (description and visual aids)
  • responses to questions

You will be asked during the abstract submission process to indicate your interest in being considered for the IChemE Early Career Researcher Award and that you meet the eligibility criteria for the award.

Ph.D. students and early career researchers who have received a Ph.D. award after 31st August, 2022 can apply for the IChemE Early Career Researcher of the Year Award. Proof of eligibility may be requested.

About the abstract submission

Authors are required to submit a single page abstract (400 word limit, maximum 1 figure/table) before March 31st, 2024. All abstract submissions should be in English.

The title of the abstract should reflect, as accurately as possible, the research conducted. The abstract should be informative, carefully prepared, and should stress the major findings to enable the Scientific Committee to judge their scientific merit.

All submissions will be via the online portal, accessible below. You can also access and edit your submission via the portal. Changes can be made to the submission up to the submission deadline.

Please note that only one oral or showcase presentation is allowed per registered delegate.

On successful submission of the abstract the authors should receive a confirmation email. Any correspondence with the conference organisers regarding a specific submission should include the submission reference number received in the submission receipt.

Abstract Acceptance

A review of all abstract submissions will take place after the close of submissions on 31st March, 2024. Notification of acceptance for oral or research showcase presentations will be given by 31st April, 2024.

Final Acceptance and Presentation at the conference is contingent upon payment of the registration fee by the presenting author before August 1st, 2024.

Conference registration should be performed electronically via the “Registration” portal (see our registration page for more information).

Extended Abstract Submission

A 2-page Extended Abstract is requested to be submitted before August 2nd, 2024 as this will form the digital book of abstracts for the conference. Extended abstracts should be submitted for both research showcases and oral presentations. All extended abstract submissions should be in English.

While the submission of a full paper is not required for the conference, a number of extended abstracts will be selected by the members of the local and scientific committees for possible special issues in selected journals (more information to be announced shortly).

We strongly encourage all delegates to submit the Extended Abstract for the conference. The submission of an extended abstract will be open to those who have had their one-page abstract accepted by the reviewers.

Extended Abstract submission will open from 1st May, 2024. See HERE for details on how to upload your Extended Abstract.
